Professor Mickey Scheinowitz

Topic of the lecture: Defining athlete’s limits

Prof. Mickey Scheinowitz is the Director and Founder of Sylvan Adams Sports Institute and a full professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University (TAU), Israel.

His research interest focuses on applied exercise physiology and is related to high performance, aerobic type (swimming, cycling, running, and triathlon) athletic performance. Investigating recovery time following exercise; development of a new algorithm to improve recovery time assessment and intervention; muscle fatigue-related exercise testing and training; improvement of reaction time and coordination; prediction of core temperature during exercise; prediction of anaerobic mechanical power output from aerobic exercise stress tests; development of computer algorithm for exercise training recommendations.

Prof. Scheinowitz earned his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Israel. Then he spent 2 years as a post-doc fellow at the Laboratory of Experimental Physiology – Cardiology Branch, NHLBI, NIH, Bethesda, MD. Between 2007-2009 he spent a 2-year sabbatical in Washington Hospital Centre, Washington DC, USA.
Prof. Scheinowitz gains vast experience in leading medical device companies from basic research through pre-clinical in vivo studies to clinical trials. He currently serves as the Chief Scientist of Aerotel Ltd, Holon, Israel. In 2014 he graduated from the Merage Institute in the medical device program, and in 2015 he completed the Directorship Executive program at Recanti Business School, TAU.

Prof. Scheinowitz’s professional career also includes Head of the Unit of Physical Education and Sports, Bar-Ilan University, Israel; Head of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program in the Zinman College for Physical Education and Sport, Wingate Institute; Head of Tel Aviv University Sports Center, Siim School for Coaches and Instructors; Exercise Program Director of Maccabi Health Services, Israel.
His professional memberships include the Sports Cardiology Forum at the Israel Heart Association membership.
Committee member of the Israel Society for Sports Medicine; Committee Member of the Ministry of Health: “Cardiac Rehabilitation Services in Israel” and “Healthy Israeli 2020 Initiative”; Fellow of the ACSM and a Committee Member of the Exercise is Medicine Initiative. American College of Sports Medicine; National Representative and member of the Development Committee of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE).

Prof. Scheinowitz has published over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including book chapters, position statements, and review articles.

Professor Alexandre Garcia Mas, PhD

Topic of the lecture: Psychological features of the top-level athletes and the COVID pandemic: Lessons learned

Alexandre Garcia Mas, PhD (born 1957 in Palma Majorca (Spain), is Senior Lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). Secretary General of the Managing Council, International Society of Sport Psychology, (1999-2017). Founder and Senior Editor of the “Journal of Sport Psychology” (JCR IF: 1.237; SJR: 4.22). Member of the General Council of Spanish Professional Psychologists (2013-). Current Head of the PhD Program at the UIB. Member of the Spanish Scientific and Academic Quality Agency (2016-2020). His current research interests include: Bayesian dynamics of self-regulation, anxiety, and cooperation and cohesion in competitive sports teams. Professor Branislav Antala, PhD

Topic of the lecture: Physical Education in Active School after the Corona Pandemic

Branislav Antala was born in Slovakia. He was a scholar at the Comenius University of Bratislava, Slovakia, where he obtained the Master’s and Doctorate degrees in physical education and sport sciences in the year 1986 and 1994 respectively. Presently he is working in Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. He is Meritorious professor in Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He is visiting professor in Beijing Sport University in China. His area of specialization is Physical education and sport pedagogy, Assessment in physical education and Sport management. He has been author of about 250 original scientific articles and reports published in 29 countries and 6 edited books.

He delivered 52 invited keynote lectures and about 40 presentations in international conferences and congresses. He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of 12 international journals egg. Physical Education and Sport (Slovakia), Kinesiology (Croatia), FIEPS Bulletin (Brazil), Gymnasium (Romania), Croatian Journal of Education (Croatia), Montenegrin Journal of Sport Sciences and Medicine (Montenegro), Physical Education and Sport through the Centuries (Serbia), Educatione Fisica e Sport Nella Scuola (Italy), European Journal of Health and Science in Sports (Albania). He is gest editor of special issue “Physical Education for Sustainability: Policy and Practice” in Sustainability journal (Switzerland).

In Slovakia he was many years member of Curriculum Council of Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovak Republic, he was many years chair of State Commission for Physical and Sport Education on National Institute for Education in Slovakia. He is chair of Department of Educology and Humanism in Sport Sciences in Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Comenius University in Bratislava. He is coordinator of national & international research projects egg. he was advisor of biggest Slovak national project in the field physical education “Enhancing Qualification of Physical Education Teachers” supported by Euro founds in the framework Education.

He is World International Vice-President of International Federation of Physical and Sport Education (FIEPS). He was 14 years FIEPS Europe President, 8 years Executive Board Member of International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) and 4 years chair of its International Committee of Sport Pedagogy (ICSP). He was conferred as Honorary Member (life time) and Member of the Advisory Board by the Indian Council of Sports Science and Physical Education.

He is a recipient of many international awards for contribution on development of physical education in the world egg. FIEP International Gold Cross of Honour on Physical Education (Brazil, 2007), Águila de Oro (Mexico, 2009), Pico Bolivar Award (Venezuela, 2009), National Sport Academy V.Levski Award (Bulgaria, 2014), Gold Plaque of Montenegrin Sports Academy (Montenegro, 2015), Albanian Sports Science Association Award (Albania, 2017), Award of Slovak Olympic Committee (Slovakia, 2018), Physical Education Ambassador Award (Spain, 2019) or Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the Olympic Games in Mexico (Mexico, 2020).

Assoc. Prof. Mihail Okoliyski

Topic of the lecture: World Health Organization’s good practices for improving health and physical activity in Bulgaria

Assoc. Prof. Mihail Okoliyski has been working in the WHO office in Bulgaria since 2014. He obtained his doctoral degree (PhD) in psychotherapy from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He worked at the German AIDS Aid and then headed the “Mental Health” department at the National Center for Public Health and Analysis at the Ministry of Health in Sofia. He is a member of the Executive Committee of ENMESH (the European Network for Mental Health Service Evaluation) and is involved in international epidemiological studies of common mental disorders. He is the author of over 100 research publications in Bulgarian and international scientific journals with an impact factor. He teaches at the Southwest University “Neofit Rilski” in Blagoevgrad at the education and training programs of midwives, social workers, and nurses.
